Hello Metze, Pure Adapter implementations without ip/tcp stack, cannot have an ip address assigned. However, the hybrid ones that are capable of handling ip MUST have an ip address configured for SMBD. It is only these adapters that are supported for RDMA and so, having an ip address assigned is a requirement for RDMA deployment.
InfiniBand adapters with IPoIB will use ip address to bind/establish only the connection with their peers, however they use the fast path for RDMA transfers. Let us know if you have any follow up questions. I've created case number 2504290040010105 to track this issue. One of our engineers will contact you soon. MS-SMB2 2.2.32.5 NETWORK_INTERFACE_INFO Response only specifies IPv4 or IPV6 as possible address families. But only ROCEv2 (on ip/udp) and iWarp (on ip/tcp) work over ip networks. Can you please clarify this as various discussions and older SDC talks talk about Infiniband being supported for SMB-Direct and SMB. Thanks! metze
