Prince Khaled Al-Faisal will open Saturday a conference on "The problems facing Muslim youths and their solutions" at the headquarters of the Muslim World League (MWL) in Makkah, said Abdullah Al-Turki, secretary-general of the MWL on Tuesday. "The MWL gives utmost importance to youth issues and dialogue with other communities as well as problems such as terrorism and extremism," he told reporters. "We are ready to cooperate with other Islamic, social, cultural and media organizations to educate young Muslim men and women on Islam." He commended the interfaith dialogue initiative of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah, saying it would help promote peaceful coexistence of nations. "We are also concerned with Muslim minorities in different countries," the MWL chief said. Recently, the MWL held a seminar in Kuala Lumpur on the issue. He also disclosed that the MWL would hold an international conference next year to mark its golden jubilee, adding that the conference would focus the league's role in serving the interests of humanity. The meet on youth issues is held as part of a series of Makkah conferences organized by the league annually on the occasion of Haj, making use of prominent Islamic scholars who take part in the annual pilgrimage as its guests. "The MWL wants the youths to understand Islamic teachings properly in the light of the Qur'an and Sunnah. Islamic teachings are capable of solving all human problems, especially those related to youths," Al-Turki said. "We have invited a number of renowned Islamic scholars and researchers as well as leaders of Islamic organizations to take part in this annual conference," he said. Al-Turki emphasized the desire of the MWL and the Islamic centers affiliated to it in solving the problems and challenges facing Muslim youths across the world. He said the new challenges posed by the globalization demanded joint Islamic efforts with the cooperation of media organizations to protect young Muslim generation from destructive thoughts and trends. "Families, mosques and schools should join hands in this endeavor," he said.
