------- Additional Comments From [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2006-01-22 05:17 -------
I am now successfully rendering MPEG video by the simple measure of using the
Format Preset of DVD. I thought I had tried this before but perhaps I had other
problems at that time (I was using the heroine rpms of Cinelerra, I hadn't fully
worked out interlacing and format settings etcetera)).

I noticed:

INFO: [mpeg2enc.plugin] Horizontal size: 720 pel
INFO: [mpeg2enc.plugin] Vertical size: 576 pel
   INFO: [mpeg2enc.plugin] Aspect ratio code: 2 = 4:3 display
   INFO: [mpeg2enc.plugin] Frame rate code: 3 = 25.0 (PAL/SECAM VIDEO /
converted FILM)
   INFO: [mpeg2enc.plugin] Bitrate: 7500 KBit/s

The aspect ratio code is coming up as 4:3 (rather than 1:1 as it has been when
rendering to Format Preset of Generic MPEG-2.)

I also noticed that the aspect ratio Cinelerra Settings>Format>Aspect ratio>Auto
had been generating for my resolution is wrong (5:4 rather than 4:3). I will
file a seperate bug about this one.

After manually setting the aspect ration correctly I could still get no success
with rendering to MPEG video>Format Preset>Generic MPEG-2>MPEG2, or with the
YUV4MPEG pipe method discussed above. I tried it with the original DV file and
with a blank project. I did seem to narrow down some very consistent behaviour
with the former method: all attempts ended with the same error re: must specify
bit-rate (see output below). There were no settings or click of buttons on the
quantisation sttings/ bitrate which would change this error.

So - in short - I will leave this bug open unless someone advises otherwise. It
seems it probably is the "known bug" re parameter passing to Mpeg2enc. I can't
see this bug reported anywhere on this system so I will leave it for now. Okay?

Also the YUV4MPEG pipe method discussed above still crashes cinelerra. It works
okay on blank footage but I'm not sure what this proves. I am happy to help any
further research this but as I now have the functional behaviour I need from
Cinelerra I will not push it myself.
