The hdv patch for dvgrab does only iec13818-1 (transport stream/container) and partial iec13818-2 (mpeg video) decoding/parsing, specifically it does not parse into any slices or macroblocks. Further, it does not do any stream modifications, the data is simply passed through to a file with parsing needed only to internally delineate frames and get stream/video metadata.
