Yes - or alternatively you may have luck building from source - some do. By default cinelerra installs into a /local/ directory so it isn't hard to remove if it doesn't work how you want. Remove the freshrpms version first so you know what you're running. Check out the svn source and then build according to the instructions on the cv.cinelerra.org site. You chances are pretty good even as a beginner. Personally I recommend to rely on the build scripts and not use any compile flags unless necessary. Just have something like this:
./autogen.sh
./configure
make
sudo make install
