What I'm especially interested in currently is to combine the following two products:

Nero Linux 3 burner program

The problem as usual is that LaCie d2 is supported on and bundled with software for Windows and Mac (Linux not mentioned) Nero Linux 3 is specified to support Blu-Ray burning, but I haven't been able to find out if it support Firewire devices like LaCie d2
You don't need Nero on Linux:

Again, you _don't_ need Nero on Linux. I guess it is comprehensible
to people with a recent Windows background why anyone would want to
use Nero on Linux. But unless Nero has changed drastically for the
better during the last 5-10 years, I can't comprehend it.

Yes, I'm also aware of and interested in the free dvd+rw-tools, version 7.0 is installed on my openSUSE 10.3. But I'm not sure if this is a maintained or supported product, the last message I've seen is from December 2006: http://fy.chalmers.se/~appro/linux/DVD+RW/
I don't know why, but when I tried it previously, I didn't succeed to use its as packet writing (growiso) on DVD+RW disks on my HP dvd writer (supplied with with Veritas software on Windows). But I'm likely to give it a trial later.

I haven't seen the comprehensive Nero 8 (now) for Windows. But I did install a beta of Nero Linux 3 last year. I don't think it is relative pricy either, as someone mentioned around $20-25 for an upgrade. Therefore if it works streamlined, I will be willingly to pay something for it. Of course in a year or so, BD-writing will be included with Linux desktops tools like Gnome CD/DVD burner and other.

And, what about Firewire burner device support?
