Agreed.

Maybe so. Then again there is not much anyone can do about people who
judge a NLE program based on the name alone.

Yes. I voted for Freecine, but that was sort of the least of the
evils. I also like 'Blender' - it's an actual word as opposed to some
arbitrary acronym. I think 'CV' and 'NG' and such in the name are
pretty ugly, and the ones that have some strange written form and a
specific, non-obvious pronounciation that you're just supposed to know
('think' or whatever it was) are just a big invitation for confusion.

It should either be a universally handy name that does not mean
anything ('Kodak', 'Linux') or a word that has some nice connotations
('Blender'). I was trying to find something in the filmmaking jargon,
but I could not really come up with anything. The closest was probably
'cutaway', but I don't really like that either.

The whole business reminds me of a Finnish bank that after a merger
many years ago spent millions on a consultant firm to come up with a
name for them. The result was 'Merita'. I hope it was worth the
several 100k FIM per letter. (A few years later they merged again and
became 'Nordea'. Don't know how much that name cost.)
