Wouldn't it be INCREDIBLE COOL to have Lumiera running on Windows, Mac OS and the palm pilot too? Wouldn't it be cool to support all sorts of hardware based renderfarms, maybe even with realtime location transparent preview over the internet? It's just that we aren't ABLE to do all of those features, because we don't have the TIME, the MANPOWER, the SKILLS, and --- last but not least, we don't even have a RUNNING BASIC APPLICATION to cover the BASIC STANDARD CASE to start with. Come on. Is this really so difficult to grasp? </rant> So, to put it more friendly: we'd really love to support especially matrox hardware. But the first problem isn't to get a SDK sponsored. The first thing we'd need for this to happen is: We'd need at least one additional developer, which has the necessary skills for developing high-perf/hardware supported things, and who is willing to spend a rather large amount of time, would be willing to participate in the project and could focus entirely on supporting matrox hardware.... > I know the comunity wants to protect the FREEDOM, and the OPTIONS of > an user, ... > the coders could find ways of making money out of this to support > development, remember those of us whom need hard based solutions are > working not playing, we invest when the time comes,... Well, making some extra money may be fine if you have something to build upon. But you shouldn't forget the big picture: Commercial: puts in a large investment up front and can hope to buy a miracle. Doesn't need to say "thanks" and doesn't need to cooperate with anyone. Can just define what is wanted and then say "Why do it this way? because I tell you!". The catch is: every investment needs to be protected. Non-Profit: has to work with what's available and grow evolutionary taking small steps. Can do things on their own right without having to justify and calculate every step, but can't take anything for guaranteed. If seems to me you are overlooking this difference, and thus you'll be constantly annoyed and pissed of how things go. The difference is a principle one. For open source, you should be happy if something is there, eventually, someday. But you shouldn't complain if it isn't. best regards Hermann Vosseler -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.6 (GNU/Linux) Comment: Using GnuPG with Mozilla - http://enigmail.mozdev.org iD8DBQFIcvW0ZbZrB6HelLIRAhlKAKCyDBqvM5wB6uHRO3L7W/O9T7xlFACfcsx5 TQEOK8bBHz3fd43HzBcDI0g= =YIEG -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- _______________________________________________ Cinelerra mailing list Cinelerra@skolelinux.no https://init.linpro.no/mailman/skolelinux.no/listinfo/cinelerra
