...but sadly, shared tracks are a convoluted, confusing and difficult to use feature. You can do clever tricks by using them at times though. To help dealing with some simpler situations, some time ago I've written a plugin called "Reroute", which allows you to build up an alpha chanel on one track and then by help of the plugin apply this alpha channel to another track. "Apply" here means simply copy it over, replacing the alpha channel of the target track.
