Being that the collector code in question is proprietary, I've a use case which I've been discussing in some detail offlist (essentially, I want to automatically group together the output of multiple exporters by this field, I can't make the IP source the same for all of them). It all seems sensible (though we need to iron out some of the details) so I'll be submitting a PER for it in due course.
