Several thoughts.
There is a "market" for used routers. The less desireable cost less. IMHO
The price is about right. Look on eBay completed auctions for Cisco to get a
feel for current costs. Can you make lemonade from lemons? <USA joke>
The 2504s have ISDN BRI S/T ports. Good to have for CCNP study. The Token
Ring ports require MAUs to connect to each other or to PCs. The good news is
that they and the necessary cables are quite cheap on eBay. Don't know if
you want to add PCs on the LAN ports. If so, then you need TR NICs etc.
Two serial ports per router is good.
Router details. How much Flash and DRAM are in the routers? Which version of
IOS? 8MB Flash or better is desireable. IOS of at least 11.0 again is
desireable. If you have to upgrade Flash then that lessens the value of the
box. Ask for rack mounting ears, console cable and adapters, and power cord.
IOS media if available.
Cisco Systems (black case) or CiscoPro (cream case)? CiscoPro requires a
patch to allow it to accept regular Cisco IOS.
Do you have budget to buy a third router? Having something with Ethernet
ports would be useful.
Can you buy just one of the 2504s for $750? A 2501 shouldn't be too much
more.

would 2*2504s be a good place to start building a lab or would it be silly
to start just with tokenRing, (I have been offered 2*2504 for $1500, is this
