Cisco has very recently announced a change in their direction regarding VPN
and Secure Client. From this time forward Cisco is discouraging their
partners from selling any PC to router, or PC to PIX VPN solution. Instead,
any router of PIX VPN is to be used office to office only, between two
routers, or between two PIX boxes. For those who need a PC to VPN solution,
Cisco is now recommending the CA3000 series ( former Altiga products ) with
the Secure Client that was once the Altiga client.

Cisco does state that the CA3000 client will work only with the CA3000 box
( and not PIX or routers at the present time )

Sorry, I don't have any links at this time. I do have a bunch of printouts.
I'll see if I discern some links later.

I do know that the Security Team where I now work has had any number of
issues with any number of client to VPN tunnel solutions. Client side
software inserts itself into the TCP/IP stack. This in and of itself can be
problematic. A check of the IRE site ( who OEM the Cisco Secure VPN client )
have a section on compatibility problems with NIC's, and applications.

If you are testing for purposes of a VPN, you may want to give your Cisco
rep a call. Why test something that is no longer being sold, and probably
won't be supported much longer.

Chuck
