Franois,
I'm sure the prices of training in India are very enticing to a lot of us in
the US. What's more, the training's in English, and is exactly the same as
that in the US schools. However, before you log on to travelocity to book
your flight tickets to Bombay, let me set the record straight:
1. Though cheap, Indian schools do not have the kind of infrastructure that
US schools do, for both Microsoft as well as Cisco training. By
infrastructure I mean - in case of Microsoft training - number of servers,
configurations, tools like TechNet, practice tests, books & resources; and
in case of Cisco training - the number of routers/student, and other
equipment - variety of routers, availability of switches.
2. Most Cisco training schools in India do not have adequately trained
trainers with sufficient background in Internetworking. Some of the trainers
might be able to meet Cisco's requirements to be a trainer for those
particular course, but generally lack the breadth & depth of knowledgebase
and experience that their counterparts in the US do.
3. Though most trainers might have good technical understanding of the
courses and products, MOST, if not ALL of them lack the communication skills
that make a good trainer. In the US, trainers go through "Train The Trainer"
workshops (for Microsoft courses), and get certifications like CTT & MCT,
amongst others. Indian CTECs do not require their trainers to be MCTs for
some reason, and I haven't heard of any such workshops for trainers being
conducted in India.
My 5-day Cisco ICRC course taken in Bombay last year was absolutely no match
for the kind of training one gets here in similar 5-day courses or the
6-month long course at my Cisco Networking Academy that also includes
thorough understanding of structured cabling and ACRC, amongst other things.
The faculty is one of the most knowledgeable I've known, is co-authoring a
Cisco book, and treats her class as an army mission! I've never seen that
kind of commitment in India.
Having said that, let me add that for the basic courses like MCSE (the
run-of-the-mill stuff), Indian schools are great! If they started investing
in training their trainers and in infrastructure, maybe India can become a
great destination for IT Trianing as well.

BTW, I think I took ICRC at Training Partners as well!
