Take a look at the "banner" commands in global config mode.  

"banner login" will display text before the user logs in.  Most useful 
for initial ID but can also give information to an intruder.  

"banner exec" displays text after login at the start of the exec session.

"banner MOTD" displays text after login including reverse telent to AUX 
ports, etc.

Of course, once you've logged in, "show version" will display what 
you're looking for.
