It depends on the equipment..   If you are using a smaller ISDN router like
a 1604 or 700/800 series where you will most likely only be dialing one
remote location you can put all of your configuration on the BRI
interface...  this is called legacy DDR and it usually uses dialer map
statements...

Dialer profiles address several dialup issues:

Before dialer profiles, all ISDN B channels inherited the physical
interface's configuration.. if you want to use one BRI to dial more than one
location you would need to use a dialer profile...

Before dialer profiles, one dialer map was required per dialer per protocol,
making multiprotocol configurations very complex..
