The simplest way to see how to summarize two IP addresses is to express both
in binary, then arrange them one above the other. Starting from the left,
stop when they no longer have an identical bit pattern--that's the summary
point.
Example: summarize 172.16.45.28 and 172.16.45.31
Both addresses are the same through the third octet, so ignore everything up
to the fourth octet:
28 = 00011100
31 = 00011111
You can see that they are identical up to the 6th bit from the
left--therefore, 172.16.45.28 *with a subnet mask of 255.255.255.252*
expresses both addresses (try applying the mask to both--you will see no
difference).
Can't help you re Network Study Guides--I haven't used their product for
CCNP.
