X-Modem Procedures
At the router.
When router boots into ROMMON perform the following:
rommon1> confreg 0x3922
Turn router off.
On the PC connected to the console port of the router: Set Hyperterminal
connection speed to 115200. Goto call and disconnect. Goto call and connect.
Turn router on. The router will boot to the rommon prompt. A the rommon
prompt type the following:
rommon> xmodem -c <filename>
The following messages will be displayed:
Do not start upload program yet.
WARNING: This operation will erase bootflash. If the xmodem download to
bootflash fails, you will lose any good image you may already have in
bootflash.
Invoke this application only for disaster recovery.
Do you wish to continue? [yes/no]:
Type yes and press [enter]
On the router it will display the following:
Ready to receive file pro.
On the PC connected to console port on the router.
Goto transfer and send file.
Select xmodem protocol. Click browse and find the IOS image file. Highlight
the file and click open. Click send. File starts to copy to flash on the
router.
At the router the following messages should be displayed.
Erasing flash at 0x3000000
Program flash location 0x3000000
Transfer complete
Once download is complete, router will automatically reload with new image.
At the user prompt enter exec mode.
Router> enable
At the exec prompt enter global config mode.
Router# config terminal
At the config prompt type the following:
Router(config)# line console 0
At the console config prompt type the following:
Router(config-line)# speed 9600
At this point you will lose connection to the router. Reset the
hyperterminal speed setting to 9600. Goto Call and disconnect. Goto Call and
connect. Your console connection will be reestablished.
At the console config prompt type the following:
Router(config-line)# end
Go back into global config mode and reset the config register to 0x2102.
Router(config)# config-register 0x2102
Router(config)# end
Next, you will need to verify that the IOS image has been copied to flash by
doing a show version before you reload the router.
Router# show version
Router# reload
This completes the xmodem procedure for IOS download.
