    This is the demilitarized zone. This is a part of the three part 
firewall. This is the LAN in between the outside filter router and the inside 
filter router where you would place your WWW and E-mail servers for example. 
This way, if someone were to breach your outside filter by way of your www or 
e-mail servers, the "hacker" would still not be inside your internal network 
because they are on the other side of the inside router. Hence the 
demilitarized zone (DMZ).
