Well, Not really. The two scenarios below always come up and I think I know the answer, I am not 100% sure. the basic questions is what does trace route use as he source address when you telnet to a router and also when you just do the trace route from the local PC. I used to do Cable Heandends....very greedy on address space. Say I added network 208.208.122.0/23 to the cable router for the customers to use for DHCP leases. I trace back out to the internet using the gateway for that network 208.208.122.1. That would let me know that my carriers were getting my traffic back across the internet. I would use different sites but simple ones www.yahoo.com www.ibm.com and a few other ones. Does that help?
