That's Ms Jenny, thank you ;-)

Your backup ISDN line won't necessarily connect to the same place as your serial
line. It's not the same network.

Why do you want to put them in the same network? To conserve IP
addresses/networks? Then use IP unnumbered and 'borrow' the address of your
LAN.
I can't say I've ever tried to use the same subnet on a backup interface, but I
strongly suspect it would screw up your routing fairly critically, even if
you're using the backup interface command rather than floating static routes to
provide the backup.

you r right mr. Jenny

i for got it.

one more doubt.

since isdn is backup connectivity for redundancy, i feel isdn port should have
ip address from the same subnet as serial port has.

is it not?????????

waiting for your reply.

If you mean default gateway, then you would usually use the address of the
LAN
port on your router, not the WAN ports.
Let's say your router has an ethernet port, a serial port and a BRI port.
Say the ethernet port has address 1.1.1.1, the serial port has address
2.2.2.2,
and the BRI port has address 3.3.3.3.
Your clients would usually have a default gateway of 1.1.1.1 - the address of
the ethernet port.

you meant to say synch port will have x addresses and isdn port have y
address.

if that is the case how clients will have 2 gateway addresses.

is it right???

pls reply me.

Your backup (ISDN) interface should have a different IP address than your
serial
interface. Or you can use IP unnumbered.

hi

i have cisco router with 2 sync ports and 1 isdn bri.

i want to configure isdn as backup link in case leased line fails.

in this scenario, whether serial interface and ISDN bri interface do have
same
IP address or 2 different ip addresses????

bye
