This was my experience...

I have successfully written to these flash cards and used them as solid
state hard-drives. There is however a problem...

To use them in the notebook you have to reformat them first (which then
prevents them being used in the Cisco - untill you reformat them again).

The answer to your question is yes you can use the PCMCIA Flash in a laptop,
but you cannot simply save the IOS image onto it and them put it back into
the Cisco and expect it to work...

Also different platforms seem to format the flash differently so you cannot
put the flash into a 72xx, format and upload a IOS for a 71xx as moving the
Flash into the 71xx reports that the Flash is not formatted correctly for
the 71xx (as it was originally formatted on the 72xx).

I was wondering if it is possible read/write to the pcmcia flash card used
in the cat5k/6k models from a standard pcmcia port on a laptop. If anyone
knows where I could find any infomration on doing so I would appreciate it.

Thanks
