>I was looking at the specs and it says that it supports 1024
MAC address. My understanding is that it is what the CAM table
will support at one time. But the specs also states:

"Unlimited MAC addresses support on configurable network port"

This, I don't get. Can anyone explain?<

A couple of thoughts...

1. Catalyst 1900s do not have Content Addressable Memory (CAM)
Tables. They are generally referred to as a MAC Forwarding
tables.

2. The limit of the total number of MAC addresses is a
function of two components: Total RAM available (fixed amount)
and the aging time of the MAC entries. If you decrease the
aging time, theoretically, your switch could hold more MAC
addresses in its forwarding table. Of course, you will likely
break other things/processes, but it is possible. A
recommendation is to leave it at the default (300 seconds).

3. The switch *does not* learn addresses from the network
port. It is a location to send long, lost wayward frames that
are homeless, a.k.a unknown address frames. By default, no
network port is specified.
