Let me preface this with a big "I think that ...
ip default-gateway X.x.x.x
ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 X.x.x.x <-- Not compatible with IGRP.
Both set a next-hop address of X.x.x.x for destinations that do not have a
route in the routing table. By default, these routes are redistributed with
whatever (IGP) routing protocol you are running.
ip default-network Y.Y.Y.Y
Will cause a route to be redistributed (Rip/IGrp ...) that says "Set your
default route to the router closest to network Y.y.y.y
