I don't think that it's a question of "whatever a client wants to
support"......

It's more like, this stuff is out there in legacy systems and they use Cisco
stuff so you should know it if you bump into it.

That's why there's still a lot of Token Ring in the CCIE, not many implement
it for new networks but there's still a lot of it out there.
