Erlang is a traffic model used by telephone system designers to estimate
the number of lines required for trunks. Erlang B is used to estimate
outbound trunks in cases where no queuing is assumed. The designer
determines how much traffic happens in the busiest hour and specifies an
acceptable probability that a call will be blocked due to insufficient
lines being available. With this info, the designer can use an Erlang B
chart to determine how many lines will be needed.
