A little history...Radia Perlman introduced some of the first link
state protocols in DECnet, which were submitted to ISO and eventually
became OSI-only ISIS. Subsequently, Radia moved from DEC to Novell
(she's now at Sun). So, similarities among DECnet LS routing, ISIS,
Integrated ISIS, and NLSP are no accident.
While there are fine details of difference, think of the ISIS/NLSP
pseudonode as having a function similar to that of an OSPF Designated
Router: reducing the overhead of full-mesh peering of many routers
over a multiaccess medium.
