I hate to jump into this, especially considering my distaste for Al Gore,
but the claim that Gore said he "invented" the Internet is a lie that has
been spread by those on the right side of the political spectrum for most of
the last year.
Gore's statement that ``During my service in the United States Congress, I
took the initiative in creating the Internet.'' has been taken "way" out of
context, and folks like Vint Cerf and Bob Kahn have stepped up to defend
Gore as being a champion of the development of what's now known as the
