I think that switch uses router style IOS.
The least expensive way to get CatOS is to buy a 2901 on eBay. It has two
slots with fixed cards. One is equivalent to a 5009 Sup I card, the second
is like a 5213 10/100 ISL trunking card. You can update it with regular
Cat5K software.
Next up is a 5002 two slot chassis. It uses the standard removable cards,
has built in power supplies. The new list price of the chassis only is $895.
Go look on eBay or buy a new chassis (get a discount) and buy cards on eBay.
Next step is the Cat5000 five slot chassis.
Then the 550x series 5505, 5509, 5500.
Be aware that Sup I modules with hardware rev 1.6 and below require a
special SIMM to upgrade the DRAM. If the Sup you are buying has 20MB you are
good to go.

I have a WS-C2912MF-X, my question is will I be able to use it as
Catalyst 55xx, will I be able to use the same ios as the one use in the
55xx. If I can do the previous there will be a need for me to go buy a
55xx(costly). I am in the process building my own lab and your help is
appreciated. In other topic I want everyone to know this group is the best I
