The Quiggle & Thomas book for BSCN is horrible! I've been talking to the
senior editor of McGraw-Hill/Osborne for a couple of weeks. He maintains
that he'll make all errors go away but I want the book to go away.
I thought the errata (4 pages, single spaced) was a little too much but I
dealt with it. Then as I read through the pages, not only did I find
blatant errors in the diagrams (that were not included in the errata), but
the grammar in the book was unreal, too.
Then I got ta thinkin' (error noted). Why did the company not edit the book
a little more before releasing it? Was it because it knew that the faster
the release, the quicker the profit? Then on top of that, I wondered how
they caught so many errors but missed others? Important configuration
errors? It's painfully obvious now that the editors and writers (and I know
they read this list) really were motivated more by profit and "being first"
on the release than writing a good, quality book.
Unfortunately for me I bought the series of books and some I have now owned
for more than 30 days. I can't take them back for refunds. I got screwed
this time but won't again. I won't touch another book by these group again.
