Yes you need the CCDA to become CCDP even though you are a CCNP.

Then take the CID to become a CCDP.

Whether it is nobler to suffer the slings and arrows of yet another 2 exams
before attempting the CCIE is a matter of personal taste I would argue.

Along with that argument I would say that the extra effort to get the CCDP
would directly increase your chances of getting to CCIE.  But the CCIE R/S
is more performance oriented than design oriented so opinions will vary.
