When speaking of packet forwarding based on layer 3 information, any
distinction made between routers and switches is marketingspeak.
Cisco doesn't exactly clarify the situation when they designate
things "gigabit switch router" or "optical switch router."

Any competitive vendor product with gigabit or faster interfaces has
hardware-assisted forwarding, with a separate control processor that
runs routing protocols.

In other words, there is no meaningful difference until you dig more
deeply into the specific requirements -- requirements for quality of
service, filtering, accounting, etc.
