Yes, you can get MM fiber to work with the LX interfaces.  To do so requires
a mode conditioning patch cable.  Basically it is a fiber patch that is
single mode on the transmit and multimode on the receive.  The single mode
is spliced into a multimode strand after about 6 to 12 inches.  This is
standard in the gigabit arena.  Here is a URL.
