hi,

we use SMDS extensivly  and we have sub-interfaces created.
we have a 10 meg link going to a HSSI interface and have setup a config like 
this

interface Hssi4/0
description 10Mbps SMDS Link
no ip address
encapsulation smds
ip ospf network broadcast
ip ospf hello-interval 30
ip ospf priority 5
bandwidth 10000
no keepalive
smds enable-arp
ntp broadcast
!
interface Hssi4/0.1 multipoint
description *****
ip address 10.*.*.* 255.*.*.*
ip ospf network broadcast
ip ospf hello-interval 30
ip ospf priority 10
arp timeout 0
smds address c449.*.*.*
smds multicast IP e449.*.*.* 10.*.*.* 255.*.*.*
smds enable-arp
ntp broadcast
