I just tested this on a 5505 and the passwords were *not* case
sensitive. They are case sensitive on our 2924XL switches, though.
Perhaps the software level has something to do with it. On the 5505
we're running 4.5.

According to the book written by Karen Webb on page 65 it states
that passwords on Cisco Swtiches using the Cisco IOS CLI AREN'T case
sensitive, while passwords on the Cisco Switches using the set/clear
CLI
don't. I've tried this out myself and it seems to be both case
sensitive.
I've tried it on a 5505 and 2924. Is this a typo? I've looked for an
errata on www.ciscopress.com and couldn't find anything..

And clarification would be appreciated.

Thanks.
