You can do this with just a few tools. Get a copy of getif2.2 which will
let you do snmp set commands, as long as you have the rw string. Get a tftp
server running somewhere that the router can reach. Read this url from
cisco

http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/477/SNMP/11.html

I did this recently using these tools just for grins, it was pretty easy to
do. The result will be that the router will tftp it's config to the server.
If you don't have password encryption on the password will be easily
readable with Word or other editor. If the password is encrypted, you will
need to hunt down another tool to decrypt it. I think L0pht has one. If
you search the archives you'll find references.

Hope this is helpful

Subject: SNMP and password recovery?? [7:5852]

say, a network admin lost router passwords, however,
he still remembers snmp community string (for r+w).

how can he retrieve or reset the passwords (what's
the mib variable?) without having to tftp-upload a
whole router config???

btw, the stuff obtained from snmpwalk is really not
as readable at all as the router config itself. ;)
