Issue                   IBM 2210 Password recovery

Technique               

1) Connect to the router via console cable


2) Switch off the router


3) Switch on the router

As the router boots you should see something like the following :

PROM Load/Dump Program * Revision: 1.20 *

4) When you see the - press "control C"

You should see something like this :

5) At the prompt, enter "BC"

(BC stands for "Boot to config-only mode using console queries")


You should see something like this :

IBD
Ethernet
WAN

Device type:


6) Enter "IBD"

You should see something like this :

IBD has Load(s) pentacom.cfg, Pentacom2
IBD Load Name:


7)  Enter the config name, i.e. pentacom.cfg


8) The router will load the config and you should see something like this :

9)  Enter "add user"

You should see something like this :

Enter user name:  []?


10)  Enter a username. It will ask you for a password, enter one. It will
ask you to enter the password again, do so.

You should see something like this :

Enter permission: (A)dmin, (O)perations, or (M)onitor  [A]?


11)  Enter "A"


12)  It will confirm that the user has been added and return you to the
prompt.

User 't' has been added
Config (only)>


13)  Enter "reload"


14)  It will ask you to confirm, say "Y" for yes.


15)  It loads the configuration again, and this time you will be able to
enter the router with your new username and password, and have administrator
access.


16)  From here you can view and change username's and passwords.
