If you think about it, that's all a router does.  It resolves hardware
addresses to network addresses, and decides on the best path for a packet to
take.  It also accepts advertisements from other routers which have done the
same thing.  This was described to me years ago by a good friend who was in
the TAC.  Simplicity.  All the other complicated stuff is just extentions of
the basic function.
