You might want to research the 1700 DSL routers with VPN & Firewall IOS too.
The problem you may be dealing with is a proprietary DSL setup.  A few years
back when I worked for Covad, it was the DSLAM technology that dictated the
type of CPE we could use & since Cisco sold DSLAM's...  their CPE's almost
never worked unless you were a Rhythms customer.  The only somewhat
universal standard between the CLEC's (that I have seen), is the IDSL (128
ISDN bonded).

Secondly- your customer may need to upgrade their service to non-PPOE or
PPOA service.  Unfortunately- you would have the ISP & CLEC to research for
more on this.  I can say even in the TAC & NOC we weren't provided this
knowledge, so you may want to look for a liaison or service engineer that
works as a go between with the ISP (but is employed by the CLEC).

As with the PIX, I'm pretty sure I have no available setting in my 506,
using 6.0 code, for changing any of the Ethernet standards.
