Sounds like a hardware failure or bad image of the PIX OS. Have you tried reinstalling or upgrading the OS? You could also set up a SYSLOG server & set up logging to see if it's trying to tell you what's wrong.
Also, just a shot in the dark, try setting duplex manually instead of setting to auto. That may have nothing to do with it but it's a good idea anyway.
