If it is just for a lab situation, even a 1600 would suffice I think
(please correct me if I am incorrect).

processor as a 2600, so that would probably suffice. From (sketchy)
memory, when researching this for a customer, their ISP said that
their 1600 would not be powerful enough, and they should look at a
3600 series router.
