OK - firstly thanks for the tips I read on this board - study X.25 ISDN and
don't worry too much about the 700 series router.

One of the good things about this exam is that it is fairly up to date - and
the X25 stuff wasn't hard either.

Cut the quick - to the tips.

1. Read the examination objectives on
http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/10/wwtraining/certprog/testing/current_exam
s/640-505.html
2. Trancender simulator rocks. The Syngress book is OK, but the exam q's
were a) full of stuff about the 700 and b) have a LOT of mistakes.
3. There are the usual Cisco "best answer" scenarios where none of the
answers are really correct, but I guess if you have to choose a router with
a serial interface from a given list (where none has a native serial
interface), one with a WIC slot is a "better" answer than one without.
4. Learn how to spell ISDN using just the letter RSTU.
5. Forget remembering any "set" commands for the 700. Just know what it
does.
2. Don't get worried about the "write the configuration command to...".
There are a few, but you get to copy the one you like best from a reasonably
short list.

As you can see from the link above, the topics for this exam are those
below. Below is a suggested weighting you should give each of the topics -
each on a scale of 1-10

Wght Topic
3 Cisco Remote Access Networks Introduction
4 Selecting CISCO Products for Remote Connections
5 Assembling and Cabling the WAN Components
8 Configuring Asynchronous Connections to a Central Site with Modems
4 Configuring PPP and Controlling Network Access with PAP and CHAP
2 Accessing the central site with Windows 95
9 Using ISDN and DDR Technologies to Enhance Remote Connectivity
8 Optimising the use of DDR Interfaces
8 Using X.25 for Remote Access
5 Establishing a Dedicated Frame Relay Connection and Control Traffic Flow
6 Enabling a Backup to the Permanent Connection
8 Managing Network Performance with Queuing and Compression
4 Scaling IP Addresses with Network Address Translation
3 Using AAA to Scale Access Control in an Expanding Network

Good luck to the rest of you - hope this helps.
