Join the board and use whatever date you feel comfortable with. As far as the date is concerned, if you can leave on a weeks notice, there will be a seat available.
Dates are always opening up. Just study with a March date in mind and you should be able to grab one within two weeks of the test. I'm pretty certain about this. Look at the scheduler and you probably will see Jan dates open. If I remember correctly Cisco testing is closed for testing from around the 20th till the new year. This might affect the availability of Jan dates in regards to my earlier statement.
