Hi, John; On IBM mainframes you have something called an SE, or Service Element. This SE is basically a Laptop computer, built into the door of the mainframe. This SE, in its turn, is connected to the native Token Ring environment of the mainframe. IBM builds this topology into their hardware for monitoring purposes.
