I was speaking to Cisco about back-up solutions for gateway routers (or the
lack of) and I was telling them about how they should write a protocol that
would work like an SA agent where it checks the network and makes decisions
on it. I said they should have an agent that can ping a host on the
internet (like a DNS server) and if it can't get it to answer anymore, then
it should bring up the ISDN interface. They said that they are working on a
new protocol called DHRP that will do just that. It will ping a server
every so often, and when it can't get it anymore (presumably because the
network is down somewhere), it will automatically bring up a dialer
interface. This is great for internet gateway routers that have a static
route to the internet.

If anyone needs this feature, call Cisco's TAC becaue the more people that
call, the faster they will bring it to market (I need it yesterday).

Also, I was asking about new IP phones at a more reasonable price (right now
a 7960 is over $600, and this is a deal-killer in a lot of sales). They are
coming out with a similar phone with a smaller screen for about $200! And
there is a 7980 comming out that will have a video phone/screen on it.
