Are you sure this wasn't a demo of ARCNet?  This sure sounds 
like the capabilities of ARCNet, except you didn't mention 
anything about a WAN link using paper clips :-)

p.s.  The demo really isn't credible unless the barbed wire was 
rusty and it had cow hair/droppings on it ;-)
