Paul, I believe at one time cisco support the 2500's much like the older 1004/1005 router where they used the PCMCIA as the flash upgrade method of choice. I have a couple of 2500's with the PCMCIA slot and after trying a number of different cards I gave up my quest to use the slot. This is what CCO has to say about it..
