That's true, but don't you think it's interesting that even debug ip
packet detail showed that all packets were leaving the *new*
subinterface?  Obviously they weren't, but the router thought they were.
 I've seen routers get confused before but usually debugging shows
what's actually occurring as opposed to what you think should be
occurring.

In this case, the debugger was just as confused as me!

Vince is right.  That little warning that not all subinterface
information
will be deleted until reboot is there for a reason.
