i figured it out with the help of my friend Mr. Rthugo. the description of
static routes is ios specific. below is a snapshot of using ios 11.2 (you
cant do it) and one with 12.1(you can do it).
12.1 router:
R4(config)#ip route 1.1.1.1 255.255.255.255 2.2.2.2 ?
Distance metric for this route
name Specify name of the next hop
permanent permanent route
tag Set tag for this route
11.2 router:
router(config)#ip route 1.1.1.1 255.255.255.255 2.2.2.2 ?
Distance metric for this route
permanent permanent route
tag Set tag for this route
