You can use command "boot system" to specify from where you will load system image. When operating normally, cisco will load system image from its flash memory, you also use the command "boot system tftp ..." to make it load from tftp server in case of flash failure. The problem is here, at that time, the cisco box has no configuration loaded yet thus it does not have any network connectivity so how come it can find tftp server to load its system image? I haven't tried to do such a thing... but in my opinion it should work fine if you connect your cisco box the same segment with your tftp server (ie thru Ethernet interface....). Another case, when you erase/lose running configuration, suppose you want to restore the original one from a tftp server, surely you can not simply key in "copy tftp run" to achieve the goal but you should configure some simple configuration for one of your interfaces to get connectivity first. In two cases, you both use TFTP server but the later you have to make sure to have the connectivity but the former seems not? So is there anything that I misunderstand? Correct me if i am wrong. Thank you.
