Hi, I agree with Priscilla. I don't think it's an ARPing problem.
Try using the extended PING command to make sure you ping from the correct interface. Also, you can try checking the ARP entry for the 3COM router on the Cisco router to see if there are any changes before and after the PING connectivity is dropped. If there are any changes, then chances are the ethernet interface of the 3COM router is faulty. Lastly, you did not mention if there are any other devices connected to the HUB. They cound possibly also contribute to this problem.
